School Enhancement Program
**** Submission Deadlines for SEP Planning Grants ****
**** TBD ****
The Pathways to Success Program awards scholarships to students to attend Pathways Partner Schools, boarding and day schools. The schools' environment provides Pathways students with the opportunity to strengthen their academic skills, gain work experience, and expand their knowledge of life beyond their local communities. The School Enhancement Program provides funding directly to Partner Schools to support their efforts to fully implement the Commonweal Foundation’s Pathways to SuccessProgram. SEP planning grants and multi-year service contracts are awarded to build capacity of the school to offer quality programs that support the specific needs of low income students. These programs benefit the entire student body of the Partner School.
The School Enhancement Program offers the following funding opportunities:
Remedial Education. This program assists students who experience a significant gap between their academic potential and achievement to obtain high quality educational services to help close that gap. Through the Remedial Education Program the entire student body is monitored for academic deficiencies, and struggling students are identified to receive extra academic support from the remedial education program. Support for Remedial Education Programs is awarded as multi-year service contracts, on an expense reimbursement basis.
School Counseling. This program assists schools in developing proactive and preventative guidance services and ensures that all students achieve school success through academic, career and personal/social development experiences. The School Counselor works closely with school staff in planning activities for students to ensure appropriate academic placement and progress, to place students in rewarding and challenging positions, and to facilitate the development of healthy life and social skills. Funding is awarded as multi-year service contracts, on an expense reimbursement basis.
Student Work Program. A hallmark of the Pathways experience is the work requirement, where Pathways Scholars are required to work a certain number of hours each week, depending on their grade in school. This program assists schools to: 1) develop student work skills such as communication, conflict resolution, team-building, and work ethic, and to help schools expand its on- and off-campus work and/or community service opportunities;Â 2) to assess the school's work program and develop a comprehensive strategy in which schools map the critical steps toward building a sustainable student work program that is able to prepare students for successful post high school participation in college, vocational, or professional opportunities in the global marketplace. Support is awarded as multi-year service contracts, on an expense reimbursement basis.
